What Is Menopause?

Menopause poses a significant challenge in the journey to conception. With menopause, menstrual cycles come to an end, ovarian reserves decline, and the production of oocytes (eggs) ceases. While this is typically age-related, there are also non-natural factors that can lead to menopause.

Causes of Ovarian failure/Premature Menopause:

Hormonal imbalances due to fluctuations in hormone levels
Premature menopause occurring before the age of 30
Congenital absence of oocyte production
Bilateral oophorectomy (surgical removal of one or both ovaries)
Reduced ovarian reserve following radiation or chemotherapy

Oocyte Donation Procedure:

In the oocyte donation process, eggs are retrieved from an egg bank and fertilized with sperm from the husband. The resulting embryo is then prepared for transfer into the wife’s uterus. Prior to implantation, the uterus is prepped for the embryo transfer through Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), which helps restore the menstrual cycle. This ensures the endometrium (the uterine lining) is properly prepared for the embryo. Once ready, the embryo is implanted into the uterus.
