FNA (Fine Needle Aspiration)

What is FNA?

Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) is a minimally invasive sperm retrieval technique used to extract sperm directly from the testicles or epididymis in men with fertility issues. It involves using a thin needle to aspirate small amounts of testicular tissue to locate viable sperm for use in IVF with ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection).

When FNA is Recommended?

FNA is typically recommended for men who:

  • Have obstructive azoospermia (blocked sperm pathways).
  • Have undergone a vasectomy and wish to conceive without reversal.
  • Have had failed ejaculated sperm retrieval for IVF.
  • Require a diagnostic evaluation of sperm production.

Steps Involved in FNA Treatment

    1. Local Anesthesia: The procedure is performed under local anesthesia to numb the scrotal area and reduce discomfort.
    2. Needle Aspiration: A fine needle is inserted into the testicle or epididymis to extract a small tissue sample.
    3. Sperm Retrieval & Processing: The collected sample is examined for motile sperm, which can be used for immediate fertilization (ICSI) or cryopreservation.
